Our Journey at Alpha Montessori
Our story began in 2007, when Alpha Montessori first opened its doors in the beautiful coastal community of Sunset Beach, Cape Town. What started as a small school with a big heart soon grew into a special place where little minds could explore, discover and flourish.
As our Alpha family grew, so did we. In 2014, we opened our second school in the Southern Suburbs , welcoming even more children and families into our community. Although we sadly said goodbye to our Claremont campus in 2021, the love and support of our Sunset Beach families kept our story going strong.
In 2022, our journey took us across the seas to sunny Larnaca, Cyprus, where we opened our very first international school, welcoming little ones from as young as 4 months to 6 years old. Today, although our schools may be miles apart, they share the same heart: a love for children, a passion for Montessori education, and a commitment to creating a home away from home where every child feels loved, valued and inspired to grow.

Our Montessori Principles
01
Independent Learning
• Children are encouraged to choose activities that spark their curiosity.
• Long, uninterrupted work periods allow children to explore, concentrate and learn at their own pace.
• This freedom helps develop independence, focus and a love for learning.
02
Positive Guidance
• We encourage children through kindness, respect and understanding rather than rewards or punishments.
• Children learn to make thoughtful choices and take responsibility for their actions.
• Our focus is on building self-discipline, confidence and inner motivation.
03
Mixed Ages
• Children learn and grow alongside others of different ages.
• Younger children learn from older peers, while older children develop confidence and leadership.
• Every child progresses at their own pace, without the pressure of traditional grades.
05
04
Prepared Environment
• Our classrooms are thoughtfully designed to be welcoming, calm and child friendly.
• Montessori materials are carefully selected to encourage hands on learning and discovery.
• Children are free to move, explore and choose activities independently.
• Everything has its place, helping children develop responsibility and a sense of order.
06
Montessori Curriculum
• Our curriculum follows the educational philosophy and principles developed by Dr. Maria Montessori.
• Learning experiences are thoughtfully designed to support each child's natural development.
• Through hands-on activities, children develop independence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.
• We nurture the whole child, supporting their intellectual, physical, social and emotional growth.
05
Montessori Educators
• Our teachers act as gentle guides, supporting rather than directing each child's learning.
• We observe and respect every child's individual needs, interests and pace of development.
• Through patience, kindness and encouragement, we create a nurturing environment where children feel safe and valued.
Montessori Curriculum
Practical Life
Practical Life activities help children develop independence, confidence and essential everyday skills. Through hands on tasks such as pouring, sorting, cleaning and caring for their environment, children strengthen their coordination, concentration and sense of responsibility while learning to care for themselves and others.

Mathematics
Montessori Mathematics introduces children to the world of numbers through hands on exploration and specially designed materials. By touching, counting and working with concrete objects, children naturally develop an understanding of quantities, patterns and mathematical concepts, building a strong foundation for future learning.

Sensorial
Sensorial activities encourage children to discover and understand the world through their senses. Using carefully designed Montessori materials, children explore colours, shapes, sizes, textures and sounds, developing their ability to observe, compare, classify and make sense of their surroundings.

Culture
Cultural Studies opens children's minds to the wonderful world around them, introducing geography, history, nature, science, art and music. Through exploration and discovery, children develop curiosity, creativity and an appreciation for different cultures, living things and the environment we share.

Language
Language development is woven into everyday Montessori learning, encouraging children to communicate, express themselves and discover the joy of words. Through storytelling, conversations, sandpaper letters and hands on activities, children gradually build the foundations for reading and writing at their own pace.
